Family Support Work (FSW) is a local, independent charity providing emotional and practical support to families in need of extra support and care. Working predominantly in areas of high deprivation, we support families who are facing significant challenges around poor mental health, financial instability, isolation, children with additional needs, domestic abuse and substance addiction. We will support any family with a child age 0-18, whatever their challenges.

With a dedicated team of 20 Practitioners (qualified social workers) and the support of 265 volunteers, we empower over 700 families annually through intensive home visits and group interventions. The practitioner liaises with the family, other professional organisations and agencies to create a holistic wrap around support service. Families also have access to FSW’s central services including toys, food bank, clothing, Winter Fuel Fund and Children’s Holiday Fund.

We expect to support over 800 families in 2024/25. Our services are completely free for families and the wider community. We have no time limitations and work with families for as long as they need us, which may be years in complex situations.
